Gaithersburg, Maryland, February 21, 2008 – Professional Products, Inc. (PPI) has been commissioned to provide The Johns Hopkins Hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland with a Clinical Skills and Simulation Center called the OC-8 Simulation Center. This center is on the eighth floor of the outpatient center building and is being upgraded to expand their teaching capabilities. This center allows future doctors the chance to practice and hone their skills before they perform a procedure on or interact with a patient. In November of 2007 PPI began assembling the racks and setting up the onsite cable pulls prior to bringing the equipment to the Johns Hopkins facility. The project is stated to be complete in February of 2008.
Professional Products’ system includes the integration of video, audio and IP hardware and software for several Simulation Exam Rooms, Simulation Operating Rooms, ICU Simulation, Observation areas, Classroom and Debriefing areas. This is a digital acquisition and distribution system providing both observation and analysis of skills training over an IP infrastructure. The equipment utilizes the latest technology in MPEG 4 encoding, 4 Terabytes of server storage, extensive control systems, broadcast level video routing and digital signal processing (DSP). The software used is a comprehensive solution that handles testing and assessment, digital video recording, center management, and simulator integration via web-based application. In addition, the system allows for video teleconferencing (VTC) with high definition displays that enable instructors to display various media and VTC.
