Job Description:
This Network Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for servicing large-scale video Storage Area Network (SAN) systems for broadcast clients. Additionally, he or she will assist other engineers in the development, implementation, and promotion of remote monitoring and diagnostic capabilities through the PPI Service Department Network Operations Center (NOC). This engineer consults with Application Engineers, Design Engineers, and others to specify equipment that maximizes the capabilities and serviceability of video networking solutions. He or she configures equipment as necessary during integration, trains PPI personnel on video networking best practices, and acts as an advisor to the sales and technical teams.
Some of the responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide service and support for clients’ networked media systems, making use of third-party support agreements to ensure clients maintain on-line capabilities at all times.
- Research, test, and specify Service Standards for designing, integrating, and maintaining systems in accordance with IT best practices.
- Configure Apple and MS Windows-based equipment for deployment on the NOC.
- Research, collect, and report information on new IT technology and its direct application to PPI’s core competencies.
- Coordinate with the NOC Network Engineer to determine the IP topology for new networked system designs to maximize use of PPI and clients’ resources.
- Train PPI personnel in the effective use of remote monitoring, remote diagnostics, and remote troubleshooting.
- Act as a liaison to clients’ IT support personnel to ensure smooth integration and servicing of systems.
- Act as an IT advisor to PPI technical and sales personnel regarding the design, integration, and marketing of PPI systems.
- Perform general administrative, technical, and custodial duties associated with the duties outlined above.

The ideal candidate should have the following professional experience and personal attributes:
- Must fully understand the fundamentals of both Windows, and Apple operating systems, have network routine maintenance experience, and be able to troubleshoot networks based on this knowledge.
- Experience with SNMP monitoring applications and practices is highly desirable.
- Experience with MS Access, MS Navision and MS Project are desirable but not required.
- Minimum 5 years working extensively with computers and networks is required. Any experience working with broadcast television systems is desirable, but not critical.
- ACSA, CCNA, ACSR or equivalent certifications are highly desirable, but not required.
- Must be as skilled in dealing with people as he or she is in handling technology.
- Must be able to explain complex technical concepts in layman’s terms to foster confidence and trust with clients.
- Must have the ability to use sound judgment as it pertains to daily activities and to resolve technical problems independently.
- Must be a highly motivated self starter with exceptional organizational skills and must be able to multi-task.
- Occasional short notice, short duration travel is required.
- Some heavy lifting is required.
