The Washington, D.C. Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications (OCTT) is responsible for covering civic functions throughout the District of Columbia. To accomplish this mandate, they contracted Professional Products to design and outfit a video production truck. The truck is designed to produce both live and taped coverage of city government events and activities. The vehicle has digital microwave transmission capabilities to send signals back to the master control room on 14th street in downtown Washington, DC. Recording is done on Digital Betacam.
With four distinct production areas, Production/Graphics Control, Camera/VTR Control, Audio, and Engineering, the truck is able to comfortably fit seven people. The front of the truck houses a 32-monitor production wall, completely patchable, with a 16-input digital production switcher. The switcher provides camera tally, as well as control of the VTRs, audio server, and the audio SDI router. Linked to the digital switcher is a graphics workstation, which is capable of providing titling, animation, and stills.
The audio area features a 32 channel audio board with an audio cart system for playback, a 32 x 32 stereo audio SDI router, and a digital matrix 24-channel intercom.
The onboard 70 kvw power generator gives the truck the ability to travel anywhere and not have to worry about being able to find a conventional power supply. The generator allows the truck to operate for up to 16 hours.
