Joint Operations Command Center

© Professional Products, Inc.The Joint Operations Command Center, (JOCC), is one of four operation centers designed and installed for the Metropolitan Police Department, (MPD), by Professional Products, Inc.  Each center was designed to display needed information from a variety of sources so that command officers can be fully informed of events while managing crises.

The JOCC is a combined operation center to be shared by the MPD, the FBI, and the U.S. Secret Service, (USSS), for coordinated operations.  The room has twenty rear-projection displays, arranged in three sections, one for the FBI, a center section of eight monitors for the MPD, and a section for the USSS.  Each section is capable of displaying a multitude of signals, in any order, in any configuration.  Each group of displays also has a video processor so that the four signals can be shown on one screen.  These signals include broadcast and cable channels, videotape and DVD playback, computer displays, and live video from the field.  This requires a complex, flexible routing system, which has complete mission critical redundancy.  Any signal can be routed around any component failure.  Every component has a backup; routers are supported by manual patch panels.  All equipment has independent uninterrupted power supplies in the event of a power failure.  The display units are specifically designed for mission critical situations with four projection lamps to prevent failure.

In addition to the rear-projection displays, there are two LCD projectors and a plasma screen.  These additional screens ensure that officers can view material from anywhere in the room.

Audio is distributed through an array of ceiling speakers and headphone monitoring stations.  Selection of sources is done through a remote control system utilizing touch screen panels.
